Ottawa – A flag flown on Parliament Hill’s East Block will be presented to CFB Trenton Base Commander Colonel Sean Friday to kick off the Heroes Highway Ride by Edmonton East Member of Parliament Peter Goldring on Saturday June 2 at 10:15.

“The support from Colonel Friday and CFB Trenton for the Heroes Highway Ride has been much appreciated,” Mr. Golding says. “I felt it was appropriate that he have this personal memento, and I asked the Minister of Public Works and Government Services, the Honourable Rona Ambrose, if a flag would be available for Colonel Friday. She graciously agreed.”

Mr. Goldring is to speak at the Base Trenton ceremony before the estimated 5,000 motorcyclists leaves CFB Trenton for the 170 km run to Toronto along the Highway of Heroes and Route of Heroes. With the number of bikers expected, the last riders will be leaving the base about the time the first riders will be arriving at Polson Pier in Toronto.

“As someone who served in the RCAF and was posted at CFB Trenton, I have strong ties to this community,” Mr. Goldring says. “I know how much the people of this area support our troops, and I was pleased to be asked to take part in this event.”

The Heroes Highway Ride is an annual event started in 2009 to pay tribute to Canadian Forces past and present.
